Place the HDPE pipe on a stable workbench or on a surface that is not affected by heat. You can secure one of them with pliers to avoid doing this on a linoleum or wooden floor, which is easier and easier to do on the floor or workbench before installing the pipe, rather than having to manually fix it in place. after cooling, it is enough to obtain strong adhesion.
Apply alcohol to the surface of the HDPE to be welded together, then wipe it with a clean dishcloth. This will remove oil and other debris from the surface that may contaminate the weld.
Put the two pieces together and the solder joint is within one to two inches. Use a heating gun to heat the two surfaces to be welded to at least 325 degrees. The HDPE has become very soft and flexible, so be careful to use a non-contact thermometer to determine the surface temperature of the HDPE part instead of touching it.
Put the heating gun aside and press the heated workpieces together in the position to be connected. HDPE will ooze slightly at the junction of the two pieces. Cool for about 3 minutes to fix, then wait another 10 minutes before putting pressure on the welded joint or trying to install the pipe. When the HDPE cools below 120C, the HDPE plastic parts will fuse together.
